Russian cuisine food replicas
Date: July 2015
Location: Smolensk, Russia
Client: Restaurant “Vkusny Dom”
Category: National Cuisine
Client Overview
Vkusny Dom Restaurant is located in the very center of Smolensk, at Lenin Street 10 — the city’s main pedestrian street with heavy foot and car traffic. Despite the excellent location and proximity to a park with many visitors, the restaurant’s attendance remained low.
Because of the large and diverse menu combined with insufficient visitor numbers, the staff had to write off a significant amount of unused ingredients every day. Marketing efforts such as social media ads, street banners, and leaflet distribution did not bring enough customers and failed to cover their cost.
Challenges & Goals
The main goals for Vkusny Dom Restaurant were to attract attention to the restaurant’s showcase, increase visitor traffic, raise the average check, and boost the overall profit of the establishment.
Another important task was to reduce advertising costs, as previous marketing efforts did not justify the expenses.
It was decided that all these goals could be achieved by creating an eye-catching restaurant display with food replicas — realistic russian cuisine food replicas showing the main menu dishes in the showcase window.
Our Solution
The Nippon Dom workshop created a set of russian cuisine food replicas for the restaurant’s exterior display — including meat and fish dishes, salads, traditional soups, desserts, and drinks. Each food replica was produced in plates identical in size to the restaurant’s actual tableware, allowing visitors to clearly see portion sizes and ingredients.
The realistic russian food display was brightly illuminated so that even in the evening, the showcase remained visible from afar and attracted passersby. The dishes were arranged in the window according to food replica display design recommendations, ensuring the best composition and maximum visual impact for sales.
Results & Impact
The new restaurant display with russian cuisine food replicas now attracts the attention of passersby — many stop, examine the dishes, choose their meals in advance, and then enter the restaurant. As a result, visitor traffic, average check, and overall revenue have grown significantly. The restaurant has completely stopped using other forms of advertising.
Because of the higher demand, the management had to expand the kitchen staff — two chefs were no longer able to handle the growing workload. The realistic russian food replicas not only attract direct customers but also create free promotion for the restaurant. Passersby take photos near the showcase, share them on social media, and some even come from other parts of the city to see the display in person — to compare the food replicas with the real dishes served inside.
The russian cuisine showcase has become a true highlight of the city’s main street, featured in local newspapers as a unique and eye-catching attraction.
