About Umami Haus
Umami Haus is a premium street food takeaway in Wolfsburg, Germany. The menu is built around eastern european and post-Soviet comfort food. Every dish is sold for takeaway in to-go packaging, which means guests place their order at the window without seeing the food on a plate first.
The Challenge: Selling Unfamiliar Dishes at a New Takeaway Window
Umami Haus opened with several connected challenges. The point was new and its cuisine was little known to local guests. Because every dish is sold for takeaway in closed packaging, customers never see the food before ordering, so the menu had to be made visible in another way. The display also had a lot of empty space, which the team decided to use to introduce shopping mall visitors to the cuisine. On top of that, the premium street food positioning needed a visual identity strong enough to read from a distance and to support a higher average check.
The Solution: Eastern European Food Replicas for the Street Food Showcase
Nippon Dom produced a set of eastern european food replicas for street food covering the entire Umami Haus menu. Because the food is sold in takeaway packaging, the client wanted the replicas plated on black tableware to underline the brand’s premium level and to match its corporate colours. Every replica was made to the exact gram weight of the dish.
As custom food replicas, every item was matched to the exact Umami Haus serving, and the team helped plan the showcase composition for the shopping mall display. Plate holders and price tags were supplied for each replica.
The Result
The replicas were completed and shipped to Germany, and Umami Haus began arranging the showcase as the items arrived. After putting out the first pieces — the medovik cake and a cheburek — the client reported that the average check rose right away, with the cake quickly becoming the item almost every customer adds to their order. The display is still being finished, and further notes on sales and customer flow will be added as the client shares them.
Client Review
The food replicas are absolutely amazing — both the plates and the stands. So far we’ve put out a cake and a cheburek, and the average bill increased immediately. Now everyone grabs the cake without exception. The salads, manty and the honey cake turned out wonderfully. I’m really glad I found you.
