Client Overview
Miyama Melbourne is a cozy café with subtle Japanese influences located in the heart of Melbourne. The venue is known for its warm atmosphere, beautifully presented desserts, and attention to detail. The owner focuses on the visual appeal of the interior and professional dessert café display ideas.
Challenges & Goals
To increase the average check and showcase the full range of desserts, the client previously used real sweets for their café display. However, fresh desserts spoil quickly, dry out, and lose their visual appeal. The café therefore decided to introduce dessert replica displays for marketing to maintain an always-perfect presentation, reduce waste from spoiled items, and attract customers — even those who originally planned to stop by only for coffee.
Our Solution
To ensure the food replicas matched the desserts served at Miyama Melbourne as closely as possible, the client sent us their original dessert glasses in advance. We sourced the plates ourselves — the shape was an exact match, although the color differed slightly. The café uses plates with a subtle grey tone, while the ones available to us were a brighter white. This detail was discussed and approved with the client prior to production, ensuring the dessert replica displays would look consistent in the final showcase.
When creating the cheesecake replicas, our craftsmen followed the standard process of making silicone molds from an original sample. However, the cheesecake available in Japan differed slightly from the version served at Miyama Melbourne — by just a few millimeters. We therefore confirmed the exact measurements with the client in advance. The final dessert replica displays were precise to the café’s specifications, differing only minimally by a few millimeters, and look completely authentic in the café’s showcase.
Results & Impact
The dessert replica displays fully met the client’s expectations and successfully addressed all project goals. With their consistent and polished appearance, the dessert showcase now always looks neat, inviting, and visually aligned with the café’s brand identity.
According to the owner’s feedback, the replicas have greatly simplified daily operations. The staff no longer needs to prepare and replace real desserts for the showcase, monitor their condition, or discard items that have dried out or spoiled. This has reduced waste and operating costs while improving workflow efficiency.
The enhanced and always-attractive display also contributed to an increase in the average check — customers are more likely to order desserts, even if they originally intended to stop by only for coffee. The client expressed strong satisfaction with the results and is considering ordering additional food replicas in the future.
